Delegates and party officials from both national and state levels gathered at the convention, where several key positions were filled. Alongside Major, the newly elected officers include Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary, Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South), Adetoyese Omokanye as National Treasurer, Alhaji Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North), and Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam as National Publicity Secretary.
The convention also saw the election of Hajia Aisha Kade as National Woman Leader, Chief Edward Ofomona as National Youth Leader, and Omolara Johnson as National Organizing Secretary.
Members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC), and all elected officeholders across the country were in attendance. This election follows a ruling by an Abia State High Court on November 1, 2024, which mandated the NNPP BoT, led by founder and chairman Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to overhaul and reconstitute party structures from the ward congresses up to the national convention. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize and collaborate with the newly elected leadership.
During the convention, Aniebonam confirmed that the party had successfully reorganized its structures from the ward to zonal levels, culminating in the establishment of the national leadership.
“This national convention will finalize our reorganization by electing and confirming our National Working Committee, which will oversee the administration and management of the party. INEC and other security agencies were duly informed throughout the process,” he stated.
In his address, BoT Secretary Alhaji Mohammed Babayo assured attendees of the party’s unity and commitment to delivering credible governance that focuses on the needs of Nigerians. He also rejected rumors of internal divisions, urging the new executive members to lead with integrity, dedication, and commitment.
