No Automatic Ticket? Peter Obi Fires Back At Labour Party Ahead Of 2027 Race

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has stated that he is not seeking an automatic ticket or preferential treatment ahead of the 2027 election.

His remarks follow the party’s clarification debunking reports that he and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, would be granted direct tickets for the 2027 general election.

The rebuttal came after the factional National Publicity Secretary of LP, Abayomi Arabambi, claimed during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that Obi would return as the party’s flagbearer to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However, in an interview with Punch, LP’s official National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed Arabambi’s claim, stating that such a decision had not been made by the party’s leadership. He reaffirmed that LP would follow due process in selecting its candidate for the next general election.

Reacting through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi said he was not concerned with such trivialities, reiterating his stance on fair competition in a democratic setting.

“Our principal, Peter Obi, remains steadfast in his commitment to democracy and the well-being of Nigerians. He has always advocated for good governance and healthy competition, which are fundamental to a thriving democracy,” Umar said.

He further stressed that Obi has never sought special treatment but instead promotes a level playing field where all candidates can compete fairly. He urged LP supporters and the general public to focus on critical national issues rather than being distracted by misleading narratives.
