Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, had on Thursday, December 11, reduced his initial 54-man provisional list to a final squad of 28 players.
Following the announcement, speculation emerged suggesting that powerful interests within the NFF may have pressured the coaching staff to include certain players.
Addressing the issue during a radio discussion with former international Segun Odegbami on Eagle 102.5 FM, Gusau warned supporters and analysts against spreading unfounded claims.
“People need to be cautious about what they say, especially on social media,” Gusau said. “The space is heavily polluted, and there are many agents pushing their own interests.”
He insisted that he has never interfered with team selection, adding that he avoids close contact with the national team to prevent distractions.
“I have never told a coach who to invite or who to drop. Since becoming NFF President, I have never even stayed in the same hotel with the team. I deliberately keep my distance,” he stated.
Gusau emphasized that choosing players is strictly the responsibility of the technical crew, noting that the federation allows the coaches to operate independently without pressure or interference.
