Nigeria has recorded a landmark achievement in regional development. In a ceremony held in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, formally inaugurated the Governing Boards of three newly established commissions: the South South Development Commission (SSDC), the South West Development Commission (SWDC), and the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
The move marks a pivotal step toward accelerating infrastructure, economic growth, and inclusive governance across the regions. Stakeholders say the commissions will play a critical role in addressing long-standing developmental disparities and unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s diverse zones.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Regional Development, brought together key government officials and dignitaries. Present at the ceremony were the Minister of State, H.E. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mary Ada Ogbe. The gathering also featured goodwill messages from the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Chairman of the NDDC Board, Dr. Chiedu Ibie, among other notable figures.
The occasion drew a distinguished audience, including members of the Senate, the House of Representatives, and respected elder statesmen, underscoring the national significance of the milestone.
In his address, Momoh hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the National Assembly for their foresight, declaring the moment the completion of Nigeria’s regional development foundation. He charged the new Boards to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, job creation, security, and accountability.
With this inauguration, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its resolve that truly, no region will be left behind.
