Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, disclosed that he hasn’t received any salary from the state throughout his two-year tenure in office. This revelation was made during the commemoration of his two-year anniversary at the International Convention Center in Awka.

Governor Soludo stressed his dedication to implementing stringent measures, underscoring the steps his administration has taken to reduce expenses. Notably, he mentioned the decision not to procure an official vehicle for the First Lady of Anambra, who continues to utilize his personal vehicles. This decision forms part of a broader strategy to exhibit the government’s adeptness in resource management and to avoid unnecessary indebtedness.

“We have deliberately opted not to borrow, showcasing our ability to achieve more with fewer resources,” Soludo affirmed. Despite facing a roughly 25% reduction in real terms compared to past administrations, Soludo’s government has effectively steered clear of accumulating new debts. This contrasts with common practices where incoming administrations resort to borrowing to finance various projects.

Governor Soludo reassured the people of Anambra that their resources are being prudently managed. He pledged to uphold transparency, particularly concerning any prospective borrowing, promising that such funds would be openly disclosed and invested in ventures capable of self-sustainability and debt repayment.

The occasion, which doubled as a thanksgiving mass, witnessed the participation of Catholic Bishops from Nnewi and Awka, including Most Reverend Jon.
