The leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have instructed their members nationwide, spanning university and inter-university centers, to commence service withdrawal effective Monday, March 18.
Last week, both associations initiated a seven-day warning strike due to the non-payment of salaries withheld from their members.
In a recent communication from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing SSANU and NASU, jointly signed by SSANU’s National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, and NASU’s General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, branch leaders are urged to enforce the nationwide strike starting tomorrow, ensuring full compliance with the directive.
JAC attributed the escalation of the issue to the Nigerian government’s inaction, questioning the rationale behind paying withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while neglecting SSANU and NASU members.
The memo emphasized:
“Please be informed that the 7-day warning strike must be comprehensive and absolute, with no room for concessions under any circumstances. Strict adherence to this directive is obligatory for all NASU and SSANU branches within the Universities and Inter-University Centers.
