No Scandal, Just Ambition — Obasanjo’s Daughter Speaks Out Before 2027 Contest
Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello — daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo — has denied the rumors that she intends to run in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Earlier, the Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had reportedly invited her to contest under its banner, and some billboards even appeared endorsing her candidacy, reading: “In Ogun State, we know ourselves. Senator (Prof) Iyabo Obasanjo. Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni.”
In an interview with Remo TV, the former Senator — who represented the Ogun Central district from 2007 to 2011 — clarified that she is not actively running for office in 2027 despite overtures from various groups.
She explained that while some people who worked with her previously support her and have expressed interest in her candidacy, she initially told them to stop because she was content living in the U.S., teaching at a university, and enjoying the life she had built.
As a professor and epidemiologist based in the U.S., she said she was eventually advised not to discourage their enthusiasm. She noted: “Nobody can say I am actively campaigning — I have not done anything. But I have given permission to those who wish to support or promote me, and that’s it.”
She urged the public to focus on excellence in whatever role they hold. Reflecting on her work in education and mentorship, she said many in Ogun State have succeeded thanks to her guidance — and that demonstrates why people may call on her for public service.
For her, it’s a broader principle: whether in politics or any other field, doing good works earns respect and recognition.
