Inside The Crackdown: PDP Factional Board Unveils Reasons Behind High-Profile Expulsions
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), headed by factional chairman Mao Ohuabunwa, has publicly defended its recent disciplinary measures against several high-profile members — including two state governors.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The BoT argued that the expulsions were essential to safeguard the party’s integrity against what it described as “internal subversion.”
Ohuabunwa made the statement during a BoT meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, December 7, 2025 — a meeting that was attended by Nyesom Wike and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, highlighting the faction’s cohesion.
He characterized the expulsions as a painful yet necessary step to defend constitutional order and preserve the unity of the party.
Ohuabunwa emphasized that the new leadership — under the acting national chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman — remains committed to the rule of law.
The disciplinary action targets members of a rival faction that held a national convention in Ibadan. Those reportedly expelled by the Abdulrahman-led group include: Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State Governor), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State Governor), ex-acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Kabiru Turaki (elected chairman at the Ibadan convention), Bode George and Taofeek Arapaja.
Ohuabunwa said,
“We gather not merely as leaders, but as custodians of the party’s moral compass, entrusted with guiding the PDP through this difficult period with clarity and purpose. Recent actions taken within the party reflect our union’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and defend the integrity of our constitution. Individuals whose conduct has threatened the unity, stability, and credibility of our party have been sanctioned in line with established resolutions… These measures were not taken lightly. They became necessary to protect the institution and our party from internal subversion and to restore confidence among us nationwide.”
