In a New Year’s Day message, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of NOA, reassured the nation that efforts are underway to reposition the national financial sector, aiming for a trillion-dollar economy that benefits all citizens within an inclusive economic framework.

Issa-Onilu highlighted the administration’s commitment to various initiatives aimed at restoring Nigeria’s global standing. The removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit was noted as a strategic move, liberating the economy from the constraints of a questionable subsidy regime and allowing savings for reinvestment in critical sectors.

The appointment of new security chiefs and the subsequent overhaul of the National Security architecture have contributed to an intensified crackdown on non-state actors causing disturbances across the country.

The establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy signifies a decisive step towards unlocking the immense potential of Nigeria’s blue economy. Combined with proactive leadership in the solid mineral sector, initiatives in dry season farming, and support for farmers, the administration aims to achieve the much-needed diversification of the economy.

Issa-Onilu emphasized the government’s determination to address issues such as ASUU strikes. The President’s approval of the Students Loan Act, the removal of universities from IPPIS, and collaboration with stakeholders for the autonomy of public universities are steps towards resolving these challenges.

In addressing the impact of fuel subsidy removal, a Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative has been established. This initiative aims for nationwide workshops to facilitate a smooth transition to CNG-fueled vehicles, providing a more cost-effective alternative. The NOA DG believes that this initiative will revolutionize transportation, reduce costs, and create business and job opportunities for Nigerians.

Issa-Onilu concluded by urging Nigerians to anticipate an exciting 2024 with unwavering faith in the positive transformations underway.
