Not Every Woman Must Marry Early – Lola Idije Speaks Against Pressure On Single Women

Published

Veteran Nollywood actress Lola Idije has cautioned against putting pressure on women to get married at an early age, stressing that marriage does not happen at the same time for everyone.

The actress stated that some women may not get married until they are 40 or 50 years old and should not be criticised for their marital status or for raising children without the support of a husband.

She made this known during an appearance on the Africanlist Podcast, where she defended women who independently shoulder the responsibility of raising their children.

According to Lola, not every woman has a husband who can support her in bringing up her children, while some women become single mothers due to circumstances beyond their control rather than by personal choice.

She maintained that a woman’s decision or situation of raising children without a husband should not automatically be interpreted as a sign of irresponsibility.

The actress also questioned the practice of pressuring young women to get married at the age of 20, warning that rushing into marriage could lead some into choosing unsuitable partners.

She wondered how anyone could be certain that a woman pressured to marry early would not end up with the wrong person.

Lola further shared her views on motherhood, observing that women often become softer after having children.

Her comments have drawn attention to the expectations placed on women regarding marriage, motherhood and the challenges faced by those raising children without partners.
