Former Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has emphasized the need to uphold the Senate’s rules, parliamentary conventions, and practices in addressing the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment after her seat in the Senate was changed without her consent. In response, the Senate voted to refer her case to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review.

Reacting in a statement on Saturday, Saraki called for transparency in handling the matter and cautioned against any actions that could undermine the integrity of the Senate.

“I have watched from afar the recent developments in the Senate involving the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. It saddens me because of its negative impact on the institution’s integrity, image, and public perception,” Saraki stated.

He urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritize the Senate’s credibility, warning that their actions, reactions, and counterclaims must not tarnish the institution’s reputation.

“The Constitution, national laws, Senate rules, and parliamentary traditions should guide the resolution of this issue to ensure fairness and maintain the dignity of the institution,” he added.
