Shehu Sani Explains His Shocking Return To APC – ‘This Is Why I Came Back

Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy on Friday, Sani attributed his return to the efforts of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who spearheaded reconciliation initiatives across the state.

Sani had originally left the APC in October 2018 following internal disputes over the party’s primaries. He later joined the PDP, where he secured a senatorial ticket but lost the 2019 election to Uba Sani, the current Kaduna governor.

After spending years in the opposition, Sani officially rejoined the APC on February 16, along with other defectors from the PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

During the interview, he emphasized his foundational role in the APC’s establishment in Kaduna and cited political differences with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai as the reason for his initial departure in 2018.

“The situation that led to our mass exit from the APC in 2018 has changed, which is why we have now returned to the party in Kaduna State,” he explained.

“As one of the founding members of the APC in Kaduna, I was instrumental in building party structures, campaigning, and securing victories in the 2015 senatorial and gubernatorial elections. However, along the way, disagreements arose between me and then-Governor El-Rufai, leading to my exit.”

Sani further stated that the current governor’s leadership style and commitment to reconciliation played a significant role in his decision to return to the ruling party.
