The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested seven individuals linked to illegal petroleum activities. During the operation, a barge and three boats filled with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were seized.

State Commandant Joachim Okafor addressed reporters at the scene near Woji Jetty in Port Harcourt’s Slaughter area. He emphasized his commitment to tackling economic sabotage, including pipeline vandalism, illegal bunkering, and the transportation of illicitly refined products.

Okafor noted that two suspects were apprehended for their involvement with a barge transporting illegally refined AGO. The suspects were found transferring the product into cellophane bags for further distribution.

Additionally, the Marine Squad detained five more suspects at the Tombia-Iwofe waterway. Preliminary reports suggest they were caught with three boats carrying an undetermined quantity of AGO.

NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Ayodele, stated that the ongoing crackdown on crude oil theft reflects the Corps’ dedication to combating illegal bunkering and supporting the nation’s oil production. He assured that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to identify those responsible, and the suspects will face legal proceedings.
