NSCDC Mining Marshals Intensify Nationwide Crackdown On Illegal Miners And Economic Saboteurs

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through its Mining Marshals, has intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities and economic saboteurs across the country.

Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Attah John Onoja, said the enforcement operations would continue nationwide without following any predetermined sequence.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring that mining activities in Nigeria are carried out in accordance with existing laws and regulatory requirements.

Onoja disclosed that the latest operation in Nasarawa State was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Mines Officer and the team responsible for regulating mining activities in the state.

He explained that the exercise was designed to ensure compliance with mining laws, operational guidelines and established safety standards.

According to him, the renewed enforcement drive aligns with the directives of NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Abubakar Audi and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, to tackle illegal mining and prevent revenue losses in the sector.

The Mining Marshals commander warned that all mining operators must obtain valid licences and satisfy the necessary regulatory and operational requirements before commencing activities.

He stressed that the Corps would sustain its nationwide operations to ensure accountability, protect government revenue and promote lawful mining practices across Nigeria.
