NSCDC Officers Attacked By Boko Haram In Kaduna; Seven Feared LostSuspected Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) monitoring team on Monday in Farin-Kasa, Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, while the officers were inspecting the National Grid installation in Shiroro, Niger State.

According to NSCDC spokesperson DCC Afolabi Babawale, the team, which consisted of nine officers and 71 other personnel, had been deployed to investigate recent attacks on power lines that caused widespread blackouts across northern Nigeria. During their patrol, they encountered a group of stranded expatriates near Dagwachi Village and offered them safe passage in their convoy. However, the team was ambushed by over 200 heavily armed Boko Haram militants positioned on a nearby hilltop. The insurgents opened fire on the convoy.

Despite being caught off guard, the NSCDC operatives fought back fiercely, neutralizing more than 50 insurgents during the skirmish. Unfortunately, seven officers are still missing, and an urgent search operation has been launched in the surrounding bush to locate them. Those who were injured are receiving medical treatment.

NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly assault on personnel tasked with protecting the nation’s assets. He praised the bravery of the operatives and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure amid escalating security challenges.
