During the operation, two suspects were arrested, and large quantities of petroleum products, believed to have been illegally tapped from a nearby vandalized pipeline, were seized.

Doreen Udugwu, the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command of the NSCDC, revealed the discovery in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 26, 2024. She explained that the Crack Squad led the operation, uncovering the hidden refinery in the dense forest of Isiala Ihie.

The operation resulted in the seizure of petroleum products at various stages of illegal processing, further exposing the scale of the illicit activity.

In an address to the press on November 27, NSCDC Commandant in Abia, Akinsola Aderemi, assured that thorough investigations would continue to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the illegal refinery operation.

He emphasized that the successful raid was in line with the directives of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to intensify the fight against illegal bunkering in the country.

Aderemi reiterated the commitment of the Abia State Command to ensuring the safety and security of the state, urging the public to assist the NSCDC by providing credible information that would help in the apprehension of criminals engaged in such illegal activities.
