Nwifuru Fires Warning At Opposition Ahead Of 2027: You Will See Real Threat

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has dismissed allegations by opposition parties that members and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are subjecting political opponents and critics to harassment and intimidation in the state.

Nwifuru maintained that the APC had not begun threatening its political opponents, but added that the opposition would see what he described as a “real threat” at the appropriate time.

The governor made the remarks on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of 13 newly elected local government council chairmen and their deputies at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, the state capital.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Nwifuru was reacting to claims by opposition groups alleging that the ruling party had been using intimidation against political opponents across the state.

“Political oppositions in the state are alleging harassment and intimidation by the ruling All Progressives Congress. They will see real threat at the right time,” the governor said.

Nwifuru also charged the newly inaugurated council chairmen to work towards consolidating the APC’s influence at the grassroots ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He specifically urged them to ensure that the opposition does not secure victory in their respective local government areas during the elections.

“You must not allow the opposition to win in your respective local government councils during the 2027 general elections,” he told the newly sworn-in chairmen.

The governor also commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for what he described as the peaceful conduct of the recent local government elections.

He urged the new council leaders to focus on strengthening governance and maintaining the confidence of residents as they begin their tenure.
