Nwifuru Not Behind It!” – Ogba Breaks Silence On Journalist Chikwere’s Suspension
Senator Obinna Ogba, founder and Chairman of Legacy FM Radio and Television, has denied allegations that Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru influenced the suspension of the station’s acting General Manager, Mr. Godfrey Chikwere.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Ogba, Chikwere was suspended for “gross misconduct” and repeated violations of the station’s internal code of conduct, not for political reasons. The decision came after an edition of his programme, Inside Politics, in which he hosted journalist Charles Otu to discuss performance issues involving Ebonyi State officials.
Speaking at a press conference in Abakaliki, Ogba stressed that Chikwere had ignored company rules on multiple occasions despite prior warnings.
“He has been doing well, but in every organisation, there are codes of conduct. If you listened to the suspension announcement, it clearly stated that it was due to failure to obey the establishment’s code of conduct. I warned him before—once, twice—and so I was disappointed when people started claiming the governor ordered his suspension. That’s an insult to my person,” he said.
Ogba clarified that Legacy FM was established before Nwifuru assumed office and that the governor has never meddled in its operations.
“The governor has never interfered—not even once. When I couldn’t condone it anymore, I told him to take a break. This has nothing to do with the Ebonyi State Government,” he added.
The media owner noted that Chikwere could be reinstated if he shows remorse, apologises to management, and recommits to following the station’s code of conduct.
