NASC Appoints Andrew Nwoba as New Senate Clerk, Announces Key Staff Changes
The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has approved the appointment of Andrew Nwoba as the new Clerk of the Senate, effective December 11, 2024. This decision was made during the commission’s meeting on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, and was confirmed in a release by the Director of Information, Emmanuel Anyigor, on Monday.
Nwoba’s appointment follows the upcoming retirements of at least 30 senior officials, including the current Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal. As per parliamentary procedures, Tambawal began his pre-retirement leave on November 1, 2024, and handed over his responsibilities to his deputy, Kamouroudeen Ogundele.
The PUNCH reported that several key National Assembly officials will retire, including the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akabueze, the Deputy Clerk to the Senate, and the Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives. Additionally, 11 directors, six deputy directors, one assistant director, and two other directors at the National Assembly Service Commission will also be retiring.
In response to these retirements, the NASC has appointed Nwoba as the new Senate Clerk and made several other personnel changes within the National Assembly.
Nwoba, before his elevation, served as the Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning. Along with his appointment, the NASC approved other significant staff changes. Emmanuel Oda was appointed as the Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, while Vivien N. Njemanze was named Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives.
Dr. Obasi D. Ukoha will succeed Nwoba as Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.
Other notable changes include the reassignment of Mr. Rawlings Agada, who will move from Deputy Clerk (Administration) in the Senate to Deputy Clerk (Legislative) in the Senate. Similarly, Florence Kehinde will transition from Deputy Clerk (Administration) in the House of Representatives to Deputy Clerk (Legislative) in the House of Representatives.
Earlier appointments by the NASC also include Ogundayo Mofoluwake Olufunmilayo as Secretary of the Directorate of Special Duties, Alkali Umar Abubakar as Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resource & Staff Development, and Essien Eyo Essien as Secretary of the Directorate of Zonal Liaison Offices.
