The Governor claimed that Obaseki had failed to distribute the books, which were donated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mark his one-year anniversary in office. Okpebholo argued that Obaseki’s refusal to distribute the materials was driven by personal motives, calling it an act of “wickedness.”

“These books you see here were donated by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the benefit of Edo children, but Obaseki chose not to distribute them because the President’s image is on the covers,” Okpebholo stated. “I want to thank President Tinubu for this generous gesture. For me, the actions of the former governor, Godwin Obaseki, are a clear act of wickedness.”

Okpebholo further criticized Obaseki’s decision to store the books in a warehouse instead of putting them in the hands of children. “This warehouse is filled with books donated by the President, but because of spite, Obaseki prevented these books from reaching our children. Today, we are here to distribute the books to the children of Edo.”

The Governor also expressed disappointment in Obaseki’s education policies, particularly the Edobest program, which he claimed had not been beneficial to the state’s children. “Obaseki says he has developed the education system through Edobest, but what we see here today is not what’s best for our children. Keeping these books away from them is an act of wickedness. Obaseki deprived Edo children of the opportunity to benefit from the books provided by President Tinubu.”

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the donated books reach the children, emphasizing that they are a valuable resource for their education.
