Nwosu’s Legacy Questioned: Senator Fasuyi Insists On Result Declaration For Immortalization

On Thursday, the Senate rejected a motion to immortalize Professor Nwosu by renaming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters after him. During the debate, Senator Fasuyi argued that while Nwosu made significant efforts, those efforts did not yield the desired result.

Fasuyi emphasized that results, not just efforts, are what people acknowledge and reward. He cited his own experience, noting that despite multiple attempts to secure a Senate seat, he only earned the title of Senator after achieving success.

He further noted that while other notable figures, like Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe, have had national infrastructures named after them due to their impactful legacies, Professor Nwosu’s inability to announce the election results under any circumstances meant he could not be credited with successfully conducting the election.

Consequently, Senator Fasuyi declared his opposition to the motion to immortalize Nwosu by naming the INEC headquarters after him, stating that his conscience does not support such a move.
