According to security expert Zagazola Malama, intelligence sources have confirmed that this unexpected turn of events marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry in northern Nigeria.

The affected bandit commanders—Kachalla Dan Baba, Kachalla Abu Guddi, and Kachalla Bello Kurma—have shown alarming signs of psychological distress. Consequently, their gang members disarmed them and left them to wander aimlessly in the forest.

Naija News reports that the incident, which occurred on March 27, 2025, has left the criminal factions in disarray, with the public speculating about the reasons behind the sudden mental collapse of these once-feared warlords.

The Commanders’ Notorious Background:

  • Kachalla Dan Baba led a large criminal syndicate based in Kudo village near Buzaya Forest, commanding over 50 fighters and orchestrating kidnappings, highway attacks, and cattle rustling across Zamfara and neighboring areas.

  • Kachalla Abu Guddi, a feared warlord from Gidan Garba village, was notorious for violent community raids and arms trafficking.

  • Kachalla Bello Kurma, operating from the Buzaya Forest, was considered one of the most brutal bandits in Maru Local Government Area, with connections to other terrorist factions in the North-West.

A vigilante operative tracking bandit activities revealed that the leaders began exhibiting strange behavior, including talking to themselves, hallucinating, and making erratic decisions. Witnesses reported that their own fighters, sensing their vulnerability, seized their weapons and abandoned them in the forests.

Speculations regarding the cause of their mental breakdown range from the prolonged abuse of hard drugs—commonly associated with some bandit commanders—to possible spiritual or divine intervention.

Security analysts believe that if the incapacitation of these bandit leaders is confirmed, it could significantly weaken the criminal networks operating in Maru LGA and neighboring regions, presenting a crucial opportunity for security forces to dismantle their remaining operations.
