NYSC Clears Air On Query Issued To 200 Corps Members Over Christmas Carol Claims
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked claims that 200 corps members were queried for not participating in a Christmas Carol event.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The organization clarified that the queries were unrelated to any religious activities, stressing that corps members have the right to practice any religion of their choice as guaranteed by Nigeria’s constitution.
In a statement signed by Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, NYSC explained that the affected corps members failed to engage in mandatory Community Development Service (CDS) activities and were absent during a December 2024 headcount conducted in Atiba Local Government Area.
To provide clarity, the affected corps members in Atiba did not participate in their scheduled Community Development Service activities and were also absent during the December 2024 headcount, which aimed to verify the number of corps members present in Atiba.
“Furthermore, they were also not present at their assigned places of primary duty within the Local Government during the specified period,” the statement read.
Misinterpretation of Events
NYSC described the queries issued by the Local Government Inspector as part of its corrective measures, emphasizing that these actions were not linked to any alleged Christmas Carol event.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing its Bye-Laws, which govern the conduct of corps members and outline penalties for violations.
“Unfortunately, they all failed to obtain written permission from the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator to travel outside the state between December 16, 2024, and January 6, 2025.
“The queries issued by the Local Government Inspector serve as a corrective mechanism within the Scheme and have no connection to the alleged Christmas Carol.
“As a responsible organization, the National Youth Service Corps operates within the boundaries of its Bye-Laws, which guide the activities of all corps members and stipulate penalties for various offences,” the statement added.
NYSC emphasized the significance of CDS and General CDS activities, which are mandatory for all corps members throughout their service year.
