In a statement issued by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC, the allegations were characterized as “laughable, absurd, and unfortunate.” Megwa strongly denounced the narrative suggesting that a state coordinator urged corps members to leave the orientation camp due to purported food shortages, labeling it as a “tissue of lies” intended to cause mischief.

NYSC management emphasized the lack of foundation in such claims, particularly highlighting the extensive experience and rank of the state coordinators involved, many of whom have dedicated over 25 years to the service. Megwa elucidated on the operational framework of the orientation camps, underscoring the presence of checks and balances to ensure a well-regulated course of activities, including the proper feeding of corps members.

He pointed out that a Resident Officer from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters oversees adherence to policies and rules during the orientation camps. Additionally, the Director-General of NYSC, Brig Gen Yushau Dogara Ahmed, actively participates in overseeing the welfare of Corps Members by personally visiting camps each season.

Megwa acknowledged the challenges faced by camp markets in the global economic context but asserted that they are shielded from exploitative practices. He criticized those spreading false claims, accusing them of seeking personal gain at the expense of national peace of mind and inflicting damage on the country and its people.

Addressing those responsible for disseminating falsehoods, Megwa urged them to cease their harmful activities and reminded them of the NYSC’s open-door policy, emphasizing their readiness to provide clarifications on operational matters.

In conclusion, the NYSC Director called out the detrimental impact of such misinformation on the nation and urged individuals to refrain from actions that undermine the peace and well-being of the country.
