Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain committed to good governance and continue prioritising the welfare of the people.
Obasanjo gave the advice on Sunday during a surprise visit to Adeleke in Ede to congratulate him on his victory in the recently concluded governorship election.
During the visit, the former President prayed for Adeleke and encouraged him to remain focused on serving the people of Osun State.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told the governor.
Adeleke, who appeared surprised by the former President’s visit, expressed appreciation to Obasanjo, God and the people of Osun State for their support.
The governor also pledged to remain committed to the people and ensure that he does not betray the confidence placed in him.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” Adeleke said.
The meeting took place just hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the closely contested election, giving him another four-year term in office.
Adeleke, who contested under the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over the APC candidate.
