Obasanjo Breaks Silence On Japa Crisis: Says Nigeria Must Act Fast Or Lose All Medical Workers

The elder statesman praised Governor Dauda Lawal for refurbishing the hospital but stressed the importance of keeping healthcare personnel motivated and empowered to perform effectively.
He said:
“When many of our trained medical professionals are leaving the country in search of better opportunities—a phenomenon we now call ‘japa’—the question is: how do you retain them without offering meaningful incentives? We must do so.”
“We need every qualified hand available because our hospitals must function. It starts with creating the right environment through renovation and equipping the facilities adequately. Then we need to ensure we have competent, well-motivated personnel.”
