Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Mabushi—through a representative, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas—Tinubu revealed that a second terminal at Kugbo is ready for launch, while another is planned for the Central Business District later this year.
Describing the initiative as “transformational,” President Tinubu said the new facility is more than just a transit point—it represents a strong commitment to improving urban security and infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“For years, Abuja has struggled with an informal transport system that contributed to traffic congestion and enabled crimes like the notorious ‘one chance’ attacks,” he said. “This terminal provides a safe, organized space where residents can board vehicles confidently, knowing drivers and vehicles are registered and monitored.”
The president noted that the terminal is part of a broader urban reform agenda. According to him, over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs were created during the construction phase of the three terminals, which aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda focused on job creation and economic growth.
Earlier in the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the administration’s plans to build more bus terminals in Wuye, Bwari, and Kuje before the end of the year.
“We are addressing insecurity by minimizing the number of unregistered vehicles operating in the city,” Wike explained. “The terminals will help eliminate the ‘one chance’ menace by ensuring commuters know the identity of drivers and vehicles.”
Wike also pointed out that the terminal will reduce roadside congestion by offering an organized space for commercial transport operations. He expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for supporting the project, calling it a long-overdue achievement for Abuja.
The minister added that the bus terminal will operate 24/7 and include amenities like food courts, restrooms, and entertainment areas. The terminal will be concessioned to private operators for efficient management, while the FCT Transport Secretariat will act as regulator.
