They were arraigned on Friday before Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, following their arrest among 93 suspected internet fraudsters in the operation at Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the EFCC, the convicts — Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo — faced separate charges of impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
Each was accused of posing as fictitious identities, including fake female personas and online professionals, to defraud unsuspecting victims via email, social media, and messaging platforms. They all pleaded guilty to the charges.
Prosecution counsel Franklin Ofoma and S.M. Yabo presented evidence including the defendants’ statements, mobile devices, forensic reports, and bank drafts for restitution. The court admitted all exhibits and, based on the guilty pleas and evidence, convicted the defendants.
Defence counsel pleaded for leniency, noting that the convicts were first-time offenders who had shown remorse.
