Political Showdown: Usman’s LP Camp Reacts Fiercely To INEC’s Abure Tenure Bombshell

In a statement on Friday, Acting National Chairman Nenadi Usman welcomed the Federal High Court, Abuja’s dismissal of Abure’s case against INEC, describing it as a victory for the rule of law.
“I received with profound relief and deep satisfaction the news of the judgment which dismissed in its entirety the case instituted by Mr. Julius Abure against INEC,” Usman said.
She noted that INEC, in an affidavit, confirmed Abure’s tenure — along with that of the National Executive Committee — ended in June 2024, and that the Commission did not recognise the March 27, 2024, Nnewi convention.
Usman praised INEC for its “clarity and institutional integrity” and urged party members to move beyond the leadership crisis, recommitting to building a credible, disciplined, and people-focused movement.
Former National Treasurer Oluchi Opara also commended INEC’s affidavit, saying it erased any lingering doubts about Abure’s claim to leadership and aligned with the Supreme Court ruling.
She accused Abure of “publicity stunts” to cling to power, stressing that the law was clear: his tenure expired in June 2024, the Nnewi convention was invalid, and the Supreme Court had already ruled on the matter.
“This counter affidavit is yet another nail in the coffin of these desperate claims,” Opara stated.
