Obidients Fire Back: “If Obi Isn’t Opposition, Why Can’t Sowore Stop Talking About Him?

Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has slammed former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore for undermining Peter Obi’s importance in Nigeria’s political space.

Sowore recently claimed that Obi has not demonstrated the qualities of a credible opposition figure. In response, Tanko, during a phone interview on Channels Television on Sunday, dismissed Sowore’s assertion and emphasized that Obi remains a dominant force in national politics.

“Here’s our question,” Tanko said. “If Peter Obi is not a worthy opposition figure, why do they keep talking about him? In today’s Nigerian political scene, no one gains attention unless they mention Peter Obi.”

He continued, “Whether he speaks, tweets, or even goes to the bathroom, it becomes news. That speaks volumes about his relevance and impact.”

Tanko also criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for what he called an unnecessary and personal attack on Obi during a recent valedictory session for the late Edwin Clark.

“Imagine the Senate President using a solemn occasion to attack Peter Obi — not on policy, but through character assassination. That tells you everything you need to know about how threatened they are,” Tanko remarked.

He urged political rivals to focus on their agendas rather than constantly targeting Obi, reaffirming the Obidient Movement’s unwavering support.

“Peter Obi remains committed to challenging the system for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians — and we will stand with him every step of the way,” he declared.
