for its members. She characterized the legislative arm’s defense as “an utterly disgraceful and disgusting act of tone-deafness on display.”
Ezekwesili’s criticism was prompted by a statement attributed to Senator Sunday Karimi, who defended the acquisition of the SUVs. Senator Karimi’s remark that “it is not only lawmakers that are irresponsible.
Ministers and Local Government Chairmen all have 4-6 Land Cruisers, so you citizens should stop disturbing us, naaa” drew the ire of Ezekwesili.
In a social media post on Friday, she described Senator Karimi’s comments as annoying and called the act of wasting public resources on luxury vehicles for lawmakers during a time of national financial distress as disgraceful and disgusting.
Ezekwesili urged Senator Karimi and his colleagues to reflect on the matter and cited specific scriptures to encourage them to act wisely and consider the sentiments of the citizens. She pointed to Luke 17:27 and Matthew 24:38-39 as references for their contemplation.
The former Minister’s statement underscores the public’s growing concern and frustration over extravagant government spending, especially at a time when many citizens are facing financial challenges.
