October 1 Protest: Police And DSS Issue Alert To Prevent Breakdown Of Order In Lagos

This warning was delivered during a town hall meeting with stakeholders and security agencies held by the Lagos Police Command on Friday in Ikeja. Several groups are reportedly planning nationwide protests on October 1 to address various challenges facing the country.

Ishola reassured Lagos residents of a robust police presence to maintain safety and order during the planned protests. “We are not stopping anyone from protesting; it is your legitimate right. We will protect everyone to ensure that miscreants do not hijack it,” he stated.

The police chief emphasized that the command is committed to its responsibility of preventing any group or individual from creating chaos or damaging property within the state. He also noted that the October 1 protests would be limited to a single location in Lagos.

Additionally, Dapo Amao, the Director of the Department of State Services in Lagos State, echoed Ishola’s sentiments, affirming that while citizens have the right to protest and express their grievances against the government, it must be done in a civil manner.

He highlighted the importance of preventing the protests from being taken over by hoodlums intent on breaching the peace and causing destruction. “We will collaborate with other security agencies to ensure lives and property are secured. We will create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and ensure that the situation does not escalate,” he assured.
