According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the crash was triggered by a tyre burst involving a moving truck. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, with the registration number FKA 195 XA, overturned and spilled its cargo onto a Hyundai vehicle traveling in the same direction.

Akinbiyi explained, “The driver of the loaded DAF truck lost control due to the tyre burst, causing the truck to overturn and its contents to spill onto the Hyundai car.”

While the accident caused significant traffic congestion, emergency responders were able to manage the situation effectively. Akinbiyi confirmed that there were no reported injuries or fatalities from the incident. The vehicles involved included the DAF truck, numbered FKA 195 XA, and the Hyundai car, numbered AAA 599 CV. Both vehicles were later towed by the Redeemed Police Division, and traffic was gradually restored.

In light of the incident, Akinbiyi urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained before embarking on road trips to prevent similar accidents. “We appeal to motorists to always check that their vehicles are in good condition before traveling on the highway to avoid incidents like this. TRACE remains committed to keeping Ogun State roads safe at all times,” he stated.

In a related incident, PUNCH Metro reported on Friday that an unidentified driver narrowly escaped death when a 40-foot container fell in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State. Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, revealed that the incident occurred around 5 pm last Thursday, affecting a black Toyota Jeep, registration number AAA 144 GU. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed, although the truck driver sustained serious injuries.
