According to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, Ibrahim, self-claimed to be a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun. He was not only implicated in multiple cases of kidnapping but also identified as the custodian of weapons utilized by the criminal group to instill fear in Ijebu-Ode communities.

“Ibrahim was arrested in the early hours of today (Sunday). He claimed to be a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun. He is a serial rapist and murderer. He had earlier been wanted in a kidnapping case,” stated Odutola. “He keeps the arms and ammunition the group used for their operations in the Ijebu area. He is believed to be the second in command, which is why they regard him as the ‘Butcher’. He is the leader of the group terrorising some communities in Ijebu-Ode.”

Following intelligence, the Special Weapons and Tactics team conducted a raid on his hideout, resulting in the recovery of various weapons and charms. The seized items included a serviceable Beretta fully loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action Rifle-Josef with 10 rounds of live cartridges, an English long double barrel rifle, two locally made short single barrel rifles, one locally made short single barrel with two rounds of live ammunition, and assorted charms of body armor.

State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has expressed determination to crackdown on criminal elements in the state. Odutola mentioned, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, through various sting operations, has promised to eliminate all criminal elements, including syndicate groups notorious for kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and cultism.”

Ogun State has been grappling with a surge in cult activities and killings. Recent incidents, such as the reported butchering of two individuals by suspected cultists in Ota town, highlight the severity of the issue. In response, the police have conducted operations to curb the rise of cultism, resulting in the arrest of various individuals associated with different criminal gangs, including Ogunnibi Hammed, a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity, and 18 other alleged members.
