Ogun State Commissioner of Finance, Dapo Okubadejo, affirmed the commitment of the government to ensure transparency in the distribution of the N5 billion state palliative program. Okubadejo conveyed this assurance during a discussion hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ogun state on Thursday.

The forum, organized by NUJ, aimed to hold those in positions of authority accountable and provide a platform for government officials to clarify any uncertainties in official policies. Okubadejo addressed concerns about the distribution of the government’s N5 billion palliative program, stating that every detail would be meticulously addressed.

He acknowledged complaints regarding the distribution of N50,000 in palliative funds to needy pupils nationwide, particularly among students who expressed dissatisfaction with the process. Some students alleged that certain government representatives were attempting to deceive them and prevent them from receiving their rightful compensation.

In response, Okubadejo assured the public, saying, “On the N5 billion palliative, I think the government has set up a committee, and we will involve all relevant stakeholders. If you are concerned about any part of the distribution process, the government is ready to listen and make amends. The money may not be substantial, but consider it the first of many initiatives to come.”

He further explained that the Ministry of Education was compiling a register, and extensive validation processes were underway. Addressing concerns raised by students, Okubadejo emphasized the transparent nature of the process and mentioned the utilization of technology, including BVN and NIN, for proper identification. He assured the public that the distribution process would be conducted with transparency and urged patience as the government worked to implement the program promptly.
