In a statement released on Thursday by Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group explained that the Southeast’s boycott of the protests is intended to encourage President Tinubu to address calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
Isiguzoro expressed deep appreciation to the Igbo people, both domestically and abroad, for their steadfast adherence to the boycott. He noted that the Southeast’s unified stance against external pressures and manipulations aimed at exploiting them for political purposes highlights their resolve and unity.
The statement emphasized that the region’s adherence to the boycott represents a significant shift in Igbo unity and determination to end exploitation by self-serving elites. It also cited the development of the Federal Expressway as evidence of the region’s commitment to progress.
Ohanaeze reiterated its call for Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release and the creation of an additional state for the Southeast to address its historical marginalization. The organization urged President Tinubu to acknowledge the Southeast’s gesture by releasing Kanu and initiating further development projects in the region.
The group encouraged all Ndigbo to remain unified and resilient against any efforts to undermine their progress, advocating for continued solidarity and work towards a prosperous future for the Igbo people and the nation.
