Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, unequivocally stated that the Igbo community refuses to apologize for the tragic deaths of Sir Ahmadu Bello and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa during the 1966 coup. Dismissing assertions by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) suggesting otherwise, he emphasized that there is no intention to apologize to the Fulani ethnic groups.

In his address in Owerri, Imo state, Iwuanyanwu asserted that the Igbo people had no involvement in the coup and deemed it unjust to hold them accountable for it. He firmly declared that Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands firm in its stance of not apologizing for something it did not commit.

Expressing dismay over false rumors circulating about a supposed meeting in Enugu where such an apology was discussed, Iwuanyanwu clarified that the Enugu gathering was focused on committees aimed at the development of Igbo land, with no deliberations on apologizing to the Fulanis.

He highlighted that the recent retreat in Enugu did not broach the subject of apologizing to the Fulani community. Iwuanyanwu emphasized that the coup was a military affair, and the Igbo community had no involvement in it, rather being victims themselves.

In conclusion, Iwuanyanwu emphasized the need for factual accuracy and urged against spreading misinformation that could lead to unnecessary discord.
