In a statement on Thursday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Okwu Nnabuike, appealed to President Tinubu to disregard the remarks of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who suggested that Nnamdi Kanu’s release may not end insecurity in the South-East.
Governor Soludo, speaking to reporters late last year, stated, “Even if Nnamdi Kanu is released today, I’m not sure they would listen to him because what they now pursue is wealth, not liberation.”
Additionally, Kanunta Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, revealed that the family had reached an agreement with Tinubu for the release of the Biafra agitator. He disclosed that this pact was made with Seyi Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election campaign, with President Tinubu’s awareness of the agreement.
Nnabuike urged President Tinubu to honor this agreement, emphasizing that it would foster lasting peace in the South-East.
He said, “We find it concerning that any Igbo individual, let alone a sitting governor, would oppose the urgent demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“Governor Soludo has consistently shown an inability to address insecurity in Anambra State, often shifting blame to others rather than taking responsibility.
“That is why he easily dismisses the impact Nnamdi Kanu’s release could have in stabilizing the South-East.”
The president of Ohanaeze youths urged the President Bola Tinubu-led government to honor the agreement reached with Nnamdi Kanu’s family, asserting that it would alleviate the ongoing tensions in Igbo land.
“We believe Mr. President is a man of integrity; he should not allow the likes of Soludo to mislead him.
“He should show his commitment to Ndigbo by ordering the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This will undoubtedly reduce tension and promote peace in the South-East region.”
