A police operative on patrol in Kubwa, Abuja, reportedly shot and killed Onybuchi Anele, a father of one, using a teargas canister after a minor incident involving a motorcyclist.

According to Leadership, the incident occurred near Haj Estate, where the deceased resided with his young wife and daughter.

An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, recounted the events, stating, “The deceased, while on his way home, collided with an okada man and his passenger. After ensuring the accident victims were okay, he proceeded home. However, when the police arrived at the scene, they insisted the deceased accompany them to the station, despite the okada man and his passenger leaving.”

“The altercation escalated, leading to the policeman shooting the teargas canister into the deceased’s eye at close range,” the witness explained.

Following the incident, church members of the deceased and neighbors rushed him to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was later referred to the National Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries around 8 am on Thursday, May 23.
