Speaking at a media briefing at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday, Okocha outlined several instances where he believes Fubara acted unlawfully, including the governor’s decision to move forward with local government elections despite a recent court ruling against it.
Okocha vowed to take legal action against what he described as Fubara’s illegal activities and urged all agencies involved in the elections to follow the law. He also called on concerned individuals to intervene, warning against allowing Rivers State to descend into lawlessness under Fubara’s administration.
In response, Governor Fubara, during his speech at the 64th Nigerian Independence Day parade held at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt, declared that his administration would not succumb to blackmail, regardless of the source or the power behind it.
Fubara emphasized that his primary focus remains on the welfare of the people and the development of the state. He pledged that his government would not be distracted by false accusations and reiterated his commitment to improving infrastructure across Rivers State.
Addressing the ongoing political tensions with his former mentor, Nyesom Wike, Fubara asserted, “We will never surrender to barefaced lies and blackmail from anyone, no matter how powerful they may be. We will stay dedicated to the interests of Rivers State and our people.”
Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State and supporters nationwide for standing by him since the beginning of his administration. He also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
The governor called on citizens to remain hopeful and committed to working with the Federal Government to resolve issues such as corruption, abuse of power, and judicial challenges that have hindered Nigeria’s democracy. He concluded by affirming that, through unity and good governance, the nation can overcome its current difficulties.
