Okowa Breaks Silence: No ₦500 Billion Refund To Delta Government!

Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has firmly denied circulating rumours that he refunded ₦500 billion to the state government in connection with an ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation.

The denial follows online claims alleging that Okowa secretly returned the funds in a bid to avoid prosecution and secure political leverage. These unverified reports suggest the purported refund was part of a covert deal aimed at shielding him from legal consequences and potentially striking a behind-the-scenes arrangement with anti-graft officials.

However, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Olise Ifeajirika, in an interview with Punch, Okowa dismissed the rumours, emphasizing that the EFCC investigation has not reached a conclusion.

“There’s no truth in the claim that Governor Okowa returned any such money. The EFCC is conducting its investigation freely. He was invited, documents were presented, and he responded accordingly,” Ifeajirika said.

He further stated, “The EFCC has visited Delta State several times, questioning individuals as part of their probe. The investigation is still ongoing, and only upon conclusion can any refund be demanded or legal action taken. No money has been returned to the Delta State Government or the EFCC, as the process remains unresolved.”
