In an interview with NAN, Okupe defended the president against critics who have condemned his two-week holiday in the United Kingdom. He explained that Tinubu’s intention was to distance himself from “undue interference from political associates” while considering changes to his cabinet.

Okupe stated, “I have read many uninformed criticisms regarding the President’s holiday abroad. From my perspective, especially during times of national crisis, it is essential for a president to separate himself from officials, friends, and associates to reflect on the past 17 months and determine a new direction for his administration. This approach also allows him to think clearly about potential cabinet reshuffles without external pressures.
