In a recent interview with Flow 98.7 FM, the rapper explained that he has spent much of his career trying to support others while balancing his own growth, but now intends to give himself the attention he has long set aside.
“Right now, I’m at a stage in my life where I’m really trying to give myself undivided attention,” he said.
Olamide noted that he has dedicated years to helping upcoming artistes and those within his circle while simultaneously managing his own ambitions.
“All my life I’ve been trying to be there for people and also trying to do my own thing. But at this point, I’m focusing on myself 100 per cent,” he added.
Through YBNL, Olamide has helped launch the careers of several top Nigerian stars including Lil Kesh, Young John, Pheelz, Fireboy DML, Lyta, Asake, Adekunle Gold, among others.
Beyond artistes signed to his label, he has also boosted the visibility of many rising talents by featuring them on hit songs — such as Zlatan Ibile, Naira Marley, Portable, Bella Shmurda and more.
Meanwhile, controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, recently stated in a viral video that support in the Nigerian music industry is largely business-driven. He further claimed to have helped more people in the music scene than Olamide, Don Jazzy, Wizkid and Davido combined.
Portable insisted that his kindness extends beyond entertainment into helping the less privileged, and accused some artistes of branding colleagues “ungrateful” once they decide to become independent.
