The late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has been laid to rest amidst a deluge of tributes. His burial took place at his ancestral home in Aliiwo, Ibadan, at approximately 4:30 pm on Friday.

Oba Lekan Balogun, who reigned for two years, passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, following a brief illness.

Leading the state’s dignitaries, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal attended the burial at Aliiwo in the Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Before the interment, a lying-in-state ceremony was held at Mapo Hall from noon to 1 pm, followed by prayers and the procession to Aliwo for the final rites.

President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences, acknowledging the monarch’s significant contributions and exemplary leadership. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Chief Anuri Ngelale, President Tinubu mourned the loss, emphasizing the late Olubadan’s dedication to service, compassion, and advocacy for peace and unity. He encouraged mourners to find solace in the enduring legacy of the departed monarch’s noble deeds and memories.

As the nation mourns, President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the late Olubadan’s soul and comfort for those affected by his demise.
