Oluwo Demands Respect: Insists On Imperial Majesty Title Over Royal MajestyThe Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has urged the public, especially the people of Iwo, to address him as His Imperial Majesty rather than His Royal Majesty. Oba Akanbi explained that the title change is justified by the unique historical and traditional significance of the Oluwo throne, which descends directly from the bloodline of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba people. Unlike many other towns where kings were once Baales (local chieftains) before becoming Obas, Iwo’s monarchs have always been crowned directly, without going through the Baaleship. This, according to Oba Akanbi, makes the Oluwo’s title distinct and worthy of the designation “Imperial Majesty.”

The monarch also emphasized that any correspondence not using the proper title will not be acknowledged, comparing it to the importance of addressing a military general or medical doctor by their appropriate ranks.
