In an open letter penned to Tinubu on Thursday, Oluwo expressed dissatisfaction with the escalating incidents of kidnappings and killings orchestrated by violent Fulani herdsmen, particularly in the South-West region and other parts of the nation.

Oba Akanbi emphasized that a significant proportion of the security challenges faced by the country stem from Fulani herdsmen seeking survival, although he acknowledged the existence of responsible and law-abiding members among them. The traditional ruler urged the Tinubu-led administration to invest in ranching as a viable alternative to the nomadic system, highlighting its potential to benefit both the herdsmen and the nation at large.

He proposed the deployment of digital technology by security agencies as part of the comprehensive strategy to combat insecurity. Oba Akanbi stressed the importance of education in addressing the root causes of insecurity, advocating for legislation compelling education for children, with strict penalties for parents who refuse to comply. The monarch suggested prioritizing the Fulani community with enhanced monitoring of nomadic settlements to secure a better future for the children within that demographic.

The letter outlined the need for strengthening Nigeria’s security through the introduction of mandatory electronic national identity cards for all residents. Oba Akanbi argued that such digital identification would empower security forces to efficiently track and identify individuals, contributing to the overall safety of the nation.

The traditional ruler concluded by urging swift legislative action, in collaboration with the national assembly, to establish laws for the expedited trial and execution of guilty kidnappers. He emphasized the importance of justifiable penalties as a deterrent to injustice. Additionally, Oba Akanbi called on Nigerians to actively support the service chiefs and security agencies through voluntary participation in intelligence gathering, emphasizing the encouragement of community policing as a vital component of the nation’s security architecture.
