Bala Muhammed, speaking on behalf of the PDP governors, emphasized the need for decentralizing the current police structure to pave the way for the establishment of state police nationwide. He acknowledged the efforts of the national security agencies but highlighted the low ratio between citizens and policing, urging for a more localized approach. Muhammed stressed the importance of states understanding the unique challenges within their jurisdictions and advocated for the decentralization of the security apparatus to enhance governance through the establishment of state police.
Furthermore, Muhammed expressed the desire for collaborative efforts with security agencies to train youths and ensure adherence to rules of engagement, avoiding extrajudicial killings. He cited examples like Amotekun and incidents in Zamfara and Katsina, emphasizing the need for effective security measures to allow Nigerians to sleep with both eyes closed.
During the visit, the PDP Governors Forum pledged N100 million to support victims affected by the recent incidents in Plateau State. Muhammed commended Governor Mutfwang for his handling of the crisis and court battles, assuring continued support from the PDP governors. In response, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the visit and the financial assistance, pledging his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity and providing good governance for the people of Plateau State.
