Omolayo Earns Silver Medal In Powerlifting

Nigeria will be aiming for additional medals on the final day of the 2024 Paralympics, with their powerlifting tally reaching three after Bose Omolayo secured silver in the women’s 79 kg category on Saturday. Omolayo, who previously won gold in the same category at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, lifted 145 kg to claim silver. China’s Han Miayou set a new world record with a 154 kg lift to win gold, while Egypt’s Safaa Hassan took bronze with a 139 kg lift……CONTINUE READING 

In Paris, Nigeria has so far earned one gold and two silver medals in powerlifting, alongside three other medals in para-athletics, para-table tennis, and para-badminton. Powerlifting remains the country’s strongest event at the Games, with a record of 24 golds, 16 silvers, and 14 bronzes before the Paris 2024 Games began.

Looking ahead, Nigeria hopes to add to their medal count with Tokyo 2020 gold medallist and Commonwealth Games champion Folashade Olwafemiayo and Loveline Obiji set to compete in the women’s +86 kg and 86 kg categories, respectively. Obiji is also a two-time Paralympic medallist, having won silver in Tokyo 2020 and gold in London 2016.
