Onanuga stated unequivocally, “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”

This denial addresses a report by an online outlet (not Naija News) suggesting that Tinubu had requested Cardoso’s resignation due to the CBN Governor’s failure to address the struggling economy and the naira’s depreciation. The report claimed that the directive was issued before Tinubu’s trip to China.

The report further asserted that despite the support from Yoruba Elders, Cardoso was directed to step down because of his alleged inability to improve the economy and stabilize the naira, which had deteriorated beyond expectations.

Onanuga firmly rejected these allegations, confirming that no such resignation request was made.
