Ondo Family Tragedy: Man Seeks Investigation After Mother And Four Children Pass Away After EatingAn Ondo resident, Mr. Ademola Adeola, is urging the state government to investigate the deaths of his mother and four children, which he attributes to alleged food poisoning. His mother, Mrs. Esther Adeola, and her four grandchildren reportedly died after consuming liquid pap at their home in Oke Aro Akure on Saturday.

According to reports, Mrs. Adeola died shortly after drinking the pap, while the children succumbed the following day. In an interview with PUNCH Metro, Adeola explained that the children experienced vomiting and stomach pains shortly after consuming the pap.

He rushed them to the General Hospital in Akure, where he claims a doctor expressed uncertainty about their condition and suggested giving the children palm oil. Adeola recounted that the doctor seemed overwhelmed and stated, “I don’t know what to give them. I don’t know what to do; I’m tired.” He believes that the medication administered may have contributed to their deaths.

The deceased children, aged nine, eight, six, and three, have since been buried. In response to the family’s allegations, Dr. Banji Ajaka, the state Commissioner for Health, defended the medical staff at the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), stating that they did everything possible to save the children. He emphasized that the hospital was equipped to handle such cases and expressed his condolences to the grieving family.

Additionally, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the incident had not been officially reported to the police but that officers had visited the family’s home to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
